First Wedding Award
April 17, 2009

Blair Gable Photography has received it’s first award for wedding photography. While I have won several awards for my editorial work, my foray into wedding awards is new. This image from Richard and Jennifer’s wedding last summer placed 13th overall in the Wedding Photojournalists Association’s Q4 Contest in the Getting Ready category.

Corey & Robyn

I photographed by first wedding for 2009 at the end of February. Corey and Robyn wanted to have a winter wedding and luckily the weather was perfect. They are both in the Canadian military and wanted to do some portraits at the Canadian War Museum before heading to Restaurant E18hteen in the Byward Market for their ceremony and reception. The only downside was that it rained the day before and the Rideau Canal was closed for skating because of it, but at least it rained the day before!

Emma +1

This is not a wedding, but it’s in the neighbourhood. Emma is due in about two weeks and I shot these portraits in her nursery over the weekend. This was my first attempt at maternity photography. I have been avoiding the work lest the resulting photography end up looking like it was done in a portrait studio. I prefer to work where the subject lives or somewhere special. I have to say that I was pleased with the result and would entertain the thought of doing it again.  ;)
